Admissions

What is the difference between the program name and the major name?

Students will be enrolled in the major “Master of Public Health in Community Health, Health Promotion and Education - MPH” located in the Fielding School of Public Health, Department of Community Health Sciences. The program name is MPH for Health Professionals Program, or abbreviated to MPH|HP for short.

What is your acceptance rate?

Due to the program’s hands-on approach to applicant support, we have close to a 95% acceptance rate. We encourage all applicants to participate in an Informational Q&A Session and meet with our Project Specialist, Brittney Hawkins, and Assistant Director, Porchia Toussaint, before submitting an application.

Can my recommenders email the letters of recommendation?

Letters of recommendation can be uploaded to the UCLA graduate application portal or emailed to our Assistant Director, Porchia Toussaint ptoussaint@ph.ucla.edu, directly from the recommenders.


Investment

What is the tuition for the 25/26 Academic Year?

MPH|HP annual tuition for the 25/26 academic year will be $29,942, and it is a two-year program. Tuition covers the cost of registration and enrollment. (Tuition can be paid in three payments during each academic year.)

Does the MPH|HP program have a UCLA employee tuition waiver?

Most executive programs here at UCLA are self-supporting programs. Therefore, we are not able to provide the UC tuition fee discount. However, the HP program offers a UC-Staff scholarship for incoming students. To learn more about scholarships and financial aid resources, please visit our investment tab.


STUDENT LIFE

How do students manage class weekends?

The HP office provides complementary coffee and tea for all students. Professors also support students by providing multiple breaks and adaptive structures such as asynchronous content, group work, and independent work time.

What do students do in-between class weekends?

Students are encouraged to review the course syllabus so they can plan to complete readings and/or assignments throughout the quarter. Organization and effective time management skills are key to staying on track with deliverables due in-between class weekends.

How do students manage group work?

While the program understands that group work can be difficult sometimes, it is an important part of your participation in your classes. HP faculty are all wonderful at facilitating this group work and offer support where needed.

How do I get my UCLA ID card?

To access the building on Friday - Sunday, students will need a Bruin Card. It is best to apply online, submit your photo, and pick it up once you are on campus. To pick up your BruinCard, please visit the BruinCard Center in 123 Kerckhoff Hall is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

How do students gain access to the library and computer facilities?

Once registration fees and tuition are paid, access to the library resources can be obtained at any campus library. Library privileges are free to all registered students. Computer facilities are also free to registered students who can establish an account by using a new user terminal at the CLICC Lab in Powell Library or the Student Technology Center by Delta Terrace.

How do students get parking on campus?

The closest parking lot is Parking Structure 8. It is located at 555 Westwood Plaza Los Angeles, CA 90095. You will need to purchase a daily permit at the parking pay station on the top floor or through the ParkMobile app. The daily parking rate is $17.00 per day. What other means of transportation are available?

Options include, carpool, vanpool, bicycles, scooters and public transit. The BruinGo! program allows members of the UCLA community to ride the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus and Culver City Bus at a reduced fare by using their BruinCard. Go Metro program offers discounted quarterly transit passes for Metro bus and rail lines. For more information view Getting to UCLA on the Transportation and Parking website.

What housing options are available to graduate students?

Students are welcomed to stay at the UCLA Meyer & Renee Luskin Conference Center located at 425 Westwood Plaza
Los Angeles, CA 90095. UCLA also offers two off-campus apartment complexes: University Apartments North and University Apartments South. Information on housing is available at the Housing Office, 270 De Neve Drive, (310) 825-4271. What recreational activities are offered at UCLA?

UCLA Recreation offers state-of-the-art fitness workouts, masters swim workouts, intramural and club sports, dozens of recreation classes, water sports at the Marina Aquatic Center, and open recreation at most campus facilities. What discounts are available to me as a student?

The Central Ticket Office, (310) 825-2101, sells tickets for all campus athletic and entertainment events. In order to obtain discounts for which students are eligible, you must present your BruinCard at the time of purchase so that your status may be validated. CTO also sells bus passes and tickets to movies and other off campus athletic, cultural, and entertainment events. In addition, most Westwood Village merchants and local movie theaters offer student discounts. For those seeking to purchase personal computers and software, the ASUCLA Computer Store offers educational discounts computers, equipment, and name-brand software.

What services are available for international students?

The Dashew Center for International Students and Scholars provides services and programs to UCLA’s international community. The services include personal counseling on visa and immigration issues, financial and tax matters, academic adjustment, insurance, and release of funds from other countries. The Center also supports international and intercultural programs which assist student and scholars to adjust to the community, including housing assistance, community services, friendship families and English conversation groups. Careers

How does the degree for the MPH|HP Program compare to the traditional MPH in Community Health Sciences?

The students from both the traditional MPH program and executive style MPH|HP program complete the exact same degree. Upon commencement, both degrees will state Master of Public Health from the Department of Community Health Sciences. The HP program’s degree will also state the emphasis, “Community Health, Health Promotion and Education.”

What are possible career options with an MPH Degree?

There are many career paths with a Master of Public Health.
